IDC IT Security Roadshow 2010
Battling Sophisticated Threats: Security Strategies For The Resilient Enterprise

Conference

Date:
October 03, 2010
Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Venue: Four Seasons Hotel

Overview

As global economies enter into recovery and enterprises begin to realign their budgets, IT security is coming under immense scrutiny after having been deemed a necessity during the downturn. The threat landscape continues to evolve, both in terms of the complexity and frequency of attacks, regardless of the economic environment. IT mangers now face the challenge of having to find the right balance between investing in IT security and spending on other IT implementations.

Threats are no longer confined to corporate networks; the growing number of mobile workers makes it a sheer necessity for companies to implement proper mobile security policies and solutions. IT managers must now deal with the added pressure of having to ensure that their employees are educated on corporate security policies and guidelines, while at the same time adding layers of security solutions to protect their companies from threats that have emanated from the growing use of Web 2.0.

"IT spending in the region will see relatively restrained growth over the forecast period. IT security will remain a top priority for businesses in the region, however, since threat sophistication and frequency levels will only increase. Companies will require security installations not only to meet regulatory requirements but also to protect themselves better from deliberate or accidental mismanagement of data. Given increasing cost pressures, IDC expects companies to turn to more costeffective vendors or seek alternatives such as security services to fulfill their security requirements. Once the economic recovery begins, spending levels will resume but will not reach the growth levels exhibited in the past." – Ranjit Rajan, Research Director, Software, IDC MEA & Turkey

To enable this platform, the agenda and discussions at the road show will explore the following concepts:

Evolution of endpoint security

Traditionally, firewalls, central virus scanners and other intrusion detection or intrusion prevention devices were held responsible for securing an end-point. With the growing adoption of new technologies such as wireless and remote access, the possible attack surfaces that can potentially expose the organization to data loss and leakage have increased dramatically. How should the endpoint security strategy change to provide comprehensive protection to the company and enhance the security of its network and confidential information?

Corporate data loss and its threat to knowledge-based businesses

Loss of corporate information through employees is a serious threat to organizations. Knowledge-based businesses, which gain competitive advantage through the intellectual property and similar critical information that they own, face greater risks than others from the loss of such data. Have data loss protection technologies evolved enough to safeguard their interests?

The danger of Crime 2.0 and other emerging threats

Organized international crime ecosystems pose a serious threat to companies and countries worldwide, and if not guarded against could have a major impact on your company’s profits and public standing. How prepared are companies in our region to face modern crime?

Emergence of managed & hosted security services

With world economies facing slowdown in economic growth, companies are forced to work with tighter budgets and look for alternate models to acquire IT security. Would managed & hosted security services step in to fill this opportunity?

Convergence of security, systems, storage & network management

The convergence of security, systems, storage & network management is beginning to happen within companies in more mature markets.
